Outdoor spaces
Explore, relax or socialise in the many beautiful outdoor spaces to be found across our University campus.
We may be a city-based campus, but we have lots of delightful green spaces to offer. Take a stroll around campus and you’ll find lush greenery, outdoor eating spots and even a fascinating tree trail.
These spaces are not only open to staff and students, but the general public too.

Whitworth Park
The charming Whitworth Park takes its name – as with the University’s Whitworth Hall – from famous engineer Sir Joseph Whitworth. It’s a great place to relax, with plenty of trees, grass, shrubs and benches, plus adventure play areas and is only a stone's throw away from our Whitworth Gallery.
-
Brunswick Park
Facing the stunning Whitworth Hall is the hugely popular Brunswick Park. Opened in 2018, the scenic space offers idyllic spots for downtime, an enjoyable walkway through campus, and fantastic views of – and photo opportunities for – some of the University’s most handsome buildings.

University Green
On the site of the old precinct on Oxford Road is University Green, a brilliant space for not only taking time out and enjoying the sun, but also for eating, drinking and shopping. The green is lined with exciting outlets, including Takk, Bold Street Coffee, Utility and BrewDog.

Alan Gilbert Square
Alan Gilbert Square sits directly in front of the Alan Gilbert Learning Commons and is the perfect place to take a break. Surrounded by some of the University’s most iconic buildings, the square offers respite from the hubbub around it.
Staff, students and the local community can enjoy a variety of trees, an abundance of wildlife and glimpses of our heritage with the interactive Campus Tree Trail.
Support services
Make use of our on-campus support services – from foodbanks to free eye examinations – that are accessible to the public.
